Happy Birthday, Pat St. John, CKLW's Youngest?

Postby jon » Wed Feb 12, 2014 1:14 pm

Pat. St. John turns 63 today. Although he lost his morning show on 50s on 5, SiriusXM now has him doing afternoons on 60s on 6. 1pm to 5pm Eastern. They even cut new jock jingles for him. But I'm sure he still runs his own CKLW Boss Radio ID, voiced by Bill Drake himself ("Ladies and Gentlemen, you're listening to Pat St. John....").

Some accounts say that Pat was the youngest on-air person that The Big 8 CKLW ever had. He started at age 18 doing News in 1969, but soon shocked his managers when he applied for (and got) the All Night Show as DJ, at a lower salary.

Coming up on 41 consecutive years on the air in the New York City market, where he also is currently heard on WCBS-FM, he holds the record for longevity in that market.

What about Cousin Brucie? He left the airwaves for the hallowed halls of station ownership for a number of years in the '70s and early '80s, breaking the consecutive aspect of the record.
