It's Mid-November, Where's The Christmas Music?

Postby jon » Mon Nov 18, 2013 2:39 pm

I see where CHFI-FM in Toronto is already 24/7 Christmas Music.

Is anyone in Western Canada?

<guffaw>

The Coast brand (NZ commercial and public radio is mostly networked) is irreverently referred to in the Junior Land Down Under as "Rest Home Radio".

"Coast FM" sounds bright and their play list seems larger than C-ISL's; They seem to have a focus.

It's not entirely on FM -- on AM in Christchurch and Dunedin in the South Island, as well as in Palmerston North and two locations in Taranaki in the North Island.

"Coast" is one of seven brands/stations operated nationwide by The Radio Network:

Dunno why the TV commercial made it to their website. It's a takeoff of a rude comedy routine, probably still available by searching You Tube, wherein a young man with, um, shall we say "extra floppy length", plays a tune on a "piano" made of strips of cloth designed/cut in the colour/shape of a keyboard. I think you would get the picture...

That K-Mart ad is being used as the focus for the question of the day on CTV's NEWS cast in Vancouver... The Ad was played and the question is "Do you think the Ad is Cute or Rude?"

I had the pleasure of playing Christmas music from around the world at CJVB on many occasions. I also operated for the Greek Orthodox Midnight Mass Christmas Eve. I did enjoy that Midnight service. I think `O Holy Night` strikes a chord for me, Liona Boyd did a very nice version of that classic Christmas selection. and it was `Can-Con``.

Aw shucks: tender North American sensibilities are being tested about a commercial which will never air here...

So CTV News Vancouver (if you're to be believed/correct) insert international nonsense (read: costs nothing) to fill time they cannot occupy with locally-produced items of relevance/importance?

Oh, sorry: I've just summarised all local evening newscasts. Poor doggies seemed to be the flavour du jour on Mother Corp's TV outburst Wednesday evening.

Yikes, I'm starting to sound like...

KWRM in Seattle went all Christmas the other day.

I was quite happy to walk into Wal Mart the other day and see signs that read "Merry Christmas" .

Thank you Wal Mart!
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

In Edmonton, Lite-FM is currently playing Christmas music in regular rotation, though certainly not the majority of songs heard.

Nothing yet from UP or Capital.

Sometime this morning, Lite-FM switched to wall to wall Christmas music.

Still nothing Christmassy on UP or Capital. Nor anywhere else in Edmonton that I'm aware of.

Based on previous years, I suspect SHINE-FM will flip to all Christmas music on December 1st though there has been no formal announcement yet.
