Former Kelowna radio personality Darren Robertson has been sentenced to nine months in jail for possession of child pornography.

Robertson was arrested in an international police operation that busted a worldwide child porn ring.

He pleaded guilty last year to two counts of possession of child pornography, and was sentenced in Kelowna provincial court this morning.

Darren Robertson, who used the on-air name Doc Roberts, worked as music director at Sun FM in Kelowna. He was also an afternoon host on the sister station AM 1150.

While there, he was honoured several times as Music Director of the Year, in the small market category, in the Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards.

Robertson left the Kelowna market in 2011 and had been working as a news reader at a private radio station in Calgary called News Talk 770. His lawyer says he has been recently let go from that position.

In 2006, an international police investigation found Robertson had purchased images of children being sexually assaulted from a website in Italy.

Two years later, Kelowna RCMP seized his computer and found more than 240 images and videos of child pornography.
