Death Of The Record Company...

Postby PicturesForYourEars » Sun Aug 11, 2013 10:16 pm

EXCELLENT radio on CBC tonight "Twilight Of The Gods"...archived on : Inside The Music.

One of a multi part series, compelling and detailed research on how record companies systematically ripped off artists, exposing shocking contract details.

And then, along came Napster.

So many parallels to the late lamented business of radio from an industry so intertwined with radio during the '40s to the '90s.
Records and radio had a symbiotic relationship.
They provided the product and we played it and the public bought it.
Radio ripped off it's talent and the record industry ripped off it's talent.
They symbiosis continued and both went into the toilet about the same time.

I wonder, Mike, if they recognise each other in the toilet bowl. But then, what with the rushing vortex of water and the terrifying roar of the flush, the wide-eyed panic might break their concentration.

It's too bad, too, as both could be supplying valuable products and services - and at bargain basement, rock-bottom prices.
