Prominent Figures of Radio Staff New Broadcast Station
Radio Station CKLG may be British Columbia?s newest station, but it is staffed with some of the most widely-experienced men in the business.
Bob Bowman, manager of the new North Vancouver station, has a background second to none in the radio world.
A McGill graduation, Mr. Bowman parlayed a newspaper background into top radio jobs in England from 1934 on, when he was an original editor of BBC?s Empire news service.
In 1937, Mr. Bowman returned to Canada to help with establishment of CBC. He was director of special events until 1943.
From 1943 until 1946 Mr. Bowman was Southam Press correspondent on Washington. Later he managed CKMO here and CFBC in Saint John.
Mr. Bowman became manager of CKLG in July last year.
Another radio veteran is Program Manager Rudy Hartman, who was announcing at CJAT in Trail back in 1939. A North Vancouver resident, Rudy also worked at CJVI in Victoria.
Sports Editor Al Pollard needs no introduction to B.C. gridiron enthusiasts. He?s best remembered for his sterling backfield work with B.C. Lions. A West Pointer, Al is now residing in Vancouver.
Glen Jamieson, who functions as an announcer-operator, has a background that includes radio stations CKMO and CKOV in Prince George.
Chuck Baxter, operator-announcer, is an Alberta man who formerly worked at CKPG in Prince George.
Announcer John Anthony, who was emoting for CBC at the tender age of 16, has a background that includes free-lance acting with CBC and he also worked at CKEY and on various American networks.
Hal Francis, announcer-salesman, is from Quebec City. He worked in radio stations in Regina, Saskatoon, Hamilton and Vancouver.
Operator-announcer Pete Kosick is a Saskatchewan man and formerly with CKNW.

JB you had me up half the night looking for a copy of the picture that accompanys this
article.

Could not find it - the quality is the shits anyway.

Thanks for this great history stuff and I will be stealing it all when I get the time.

The only name from that list that I really know is John Richards. In my day, he was
a reporter from CJJC.

Other stations had been on the air over thirty years when this whipstripper showed up out of the blue. Like NW it took about ten years to get established and hit its peak.

It's interest how this station started under the auspices of the Gibson Bros with its
MOR background and what it became as a giant of rock and Top Forty in the 70's.

All I hear in my mind is Roy Hennessey: C......K........L........G.

CKLG PD Rudy Hartman was also the PD at CJVB 1470 when I worked there in the early 70's. I can honestly say that Rudy was the BEST PD I ever worked for and was a warm, friendly approachable guy who had absolutely no ego about his many years and accomplishments in radio. According to Vancouver Broacasters.com, Rudy is apparently retired & living on the Saanich Penninsula. Rudy is truly one of the nice guys in Vanoucver's rich radio history! I wish him well.
