ABC News’ “World News” anchor Diane Sawyer was the favorite news personality among a sample of people queried by the Harris Poll, while Rush Limbaugh was least favorite.
Sawyer was named the favorite by 23% of a sample of 2,016 adults who responded to an online poll during a week in January.
Limbaugh, the conservative radio host, was named by 46% of those questioned as least-favorite news personality.
Participants in the poll were given 26 current-affairs personalities to chose from and asked to pick their three favorite and three least favorite. It should be noted that for 20% of those surveyed, none of the 26 were their favorites.
Following Sawyer on the favorite list were CNN’s Anderson Cooper and NBC News’ “Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams, who each got 19% of the votes.
Fox News’ “O’Reilly Factor” anchor Bill O’Reilly and ABC’s Barbara Walters each got 15%, according to the Harris Poll.
Having respondents pick from the same names set up some interesting contrasts.
While O’Reilly was tied for third on the favorite list, he was No. 2 on the least-favorite tally, for a total of 31% of votes.
Harris also broke down the results based on political leaning of those responding to the poll.
For example, 17% of the folks who said they were Republican picked Sawyer, while 28% of the Democrats liked her best. O’Reilly led among Republican respondents, with the Fox personality getting 29% of their vote.
In the least-favorite race, Limbaugh got — no shock — 66% of the votes from those saying they were Democrats. Among Republicans, Limbaugh got 24% of the least-favorite votes, finishing second to HLN’s Nancy Grace, who had 25%.
