Rumour mill says that The Peak will be returning to the 102.7 frequency very, very soon.

It wouldn’t surprise me. Now is not a good fit in Vancouver. Neither is the Peak. But at least they can run it with minimal on air staff like they had in the past. Only two more local jobs would be lost with Jaclyn and Brayden. Unless one or both stay on with the Peak.

Now when does this change happen? Maybe Friday before the Canada Day long weekend? That would be my guess

Why bring back a dead horse that failed miserably in both Vancouver and Calgary?

Vancouver is lacking an actual Oldies station and from what I've heard, Pattison's OV 103.9 in Kelowna is a winner with it's 60s, 70s, 80s mix and huge playlist.

Another attempt at trying to attract a younger audience is a waste of time and money, that demo doesn't even know what a radio is. Do something that will give a mature audience something to listen to (and I don't mean
the same 200 burnt out songs on a daily basis).

On the other hand, in Edmonton, David Bray reported in March on the PPM Numeris ratings that NOW! continues to do well here:
Edmonton: CBC Radio 1 takes #1 with A12+, posting an 8.7 % share of hours tuned. NOW! holds top spot for F25-54, delivering a 14.8% share (down from 15.8 %). The Bear tops the list for M25-54 with an 11.9% share followed by K97 at 9.8 %. For M18-34, NOW is out in front at 16.7% followed by the Bear with 14.3%. CISN Country led with F18-34 delivering a healthy 17.1%.

Oldies/Classic Hits was my thought exactly even before reading this post. I've been pleasantly surprised with the music mix on OV; even some CanCon I hadn't heard in years, and never thought I'd want to ever here again! ;) Despite the presence of Jack and Rock101, there is still a whole in the marketplace that could be filled.

Well listening to the online stream of The Peak and Jaclyn was on air earlier today (middays at Now) and then a male host was on after m, not sure who he was. But I heard him a few times. So clearly they have an on air lineup ready for launch so the change must be soon

On The Peak today there has been ads saying they are changing for good. Guy asks The Music? No. The name? because I love the name. No. So what is changing. The Peak is changing for good. Keep listening.
So they are clearly working towards the change back to traditional FM. I have also noticed the playlist is a lot better now than it had been over the last year or so. I recognize about 90-95% of songs now, since I started listening exclusively since the weekend. Previous times I would listen for an hour or so and recognize 50-60% of the music.

OV would be harder to pull off in Vancouver. It's an agency driven market, and too much of the OV audience will be outside of the demos they look at.

If this happens, look for 1049 to quickly pivot back to KiSS

I don’t think Kiss will come back. It never did great in the ratings there. At least Sonic has a chance maybe. Hopefully

Sonic has no chance if Peak comes back.

The Peak never did well over all the years it was on air. Sonic meanwhile is better and is working towards being better when they boost there on air talent. So I don’t think they will go anywhere. The station I would be worried about is CFOX. 2 stations playing something similar to them and Rock 101 playing other good music I think CFOX would be in more trouble than Sonic

The change happened at midnight. For the last hour or so of Now the features of the website were slowly coming offline. Now TV, the chat, some features in the app. The stations Instagram. On thepeak.fm the hosts page came back and then the HD references disappeared.

The Now! app went to The Peak at midnight as well. The Wikipedia page had an update prior to midnight.

The new path led us back to where we started!

Pattison Media is excited to announce that after a 2-year detour and some valuable lessons learned, THE PEAK is back at 102.7 FM as Vancouver’s original Alternative radio station!

THE PEAK, which moved exclusively to streaming and on HD2 in July of 2022, is famous for being the leader for the best Alternative music and for showcasing new and upcoming local and international artists. Now restored to its home on FM at 102.7, while also remaining on HD, THE PEAK will continue with the very best Alternative music from the 2000’s to now. Playlists will include artists like Muse, Green Day, Tame Impala, Coldplay, The Arkells, Death Cab For Cutie, Twenty One Pilots, Metric, Foster The People, and Foo Fighters.

Russell James, Program Director, “THE PEAK’s audience, even though they could only hear us on our stream and HD2 signal, has been impressively dedicated. So many people discovered their new favorite song playing for the first time on 102.7 FM and we want to continue that discovery on the radio and showcasing new bands in THE PEAK Live Lounge!”

Mark Patric, General Manager, “THE PEAK has always been Vancouver’s home of Alternative music. We couldn’t be prouder to bring it back to FM!”

THE PEAK promise to its listeners is more music every hour. When we do stop the music for ads, it will be for no more than 2 minutes. That means MORE of the music you love, every hour!

THE PEAK is for those who are looking for a radio station that will play the best in Alternative music, with hosts who will focus on events, concerts, Vancouver culture, and everything else that makes Vancouver great. We love Alternative music and the West Coast lifestyle! We invite you to listen!
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.
