November 1977 - this was when CFUN was as big as it ever was. They had the numbers, the talent, the image; but it was all about to change.
The next year Raccoon jumped to CKLG.
The often told story, whether true or not, was that when Ralph “Raccoon” Carney was asked what the difference was between CFUN and CKLG, he replied: “..about a grand a month”.
Also Bob McGee departed in 1978 for CHUM but not before Russ McLeod arrived.
Merv Connelly would eventually also move across False Creek to CKLG and be a part of the legendary Morning Zoo.
That’s Vince Cownden crafting a local spot in production. He was one if the best in the field and took his talents back east to CHUM as well. Turned out he was a pretty skilled program manager/director too and later had no small success in that.
It’s just so startling to see all of them so very young! Joyce Falkowski looks no more than a teenager.
