Most radio employers these days want you to do all of the above plus record voice tracks on up to four different stations, repair anything that breaks, update the websites, answer listener phonecalls and emails, do personal appearances, sweep up and mop down the countertops for an amazing $15 per hour.
They'd also like you permanently to wear kneepads so you can immediately assume the position when any "management" is around.
There are exceptions to this, of course.
They're just getting harder to find every day as the independants run by real radio people are gobbled up by the chains.
I have moved on to TV, where my skills acquired by working with an amazing group of broadcasters over more than 40 years, are much more appreciated.
I'm still doing freelance radio stuff but not in the Vancouver market.
That way, I get to pick and choose for whom I work.
